“To provide students with the skills they need to enjoy music throughout their lives”

At Cedar Music, we offer many recitals and performance classes to provide performance opportunities. We also encourage participation in our Music Education Performance Program*.  This is an annual  solo festival. When our students get opportunities to perform, it is a chance for them and their parents to be proud of what they’ve accomplished. Our recitals and performance classes are a time to celebrate achievement and learn from one another.

Recitals: For the 2008 - 2009 year, recitals will be on December 19/20 and June 26/27. We will have sign ups for recital times the week prior. The following are guidelines for making our recitals as nice as possible.

Recitals should be taken very seriously. We encourage all students to prepare their pieces thoroughly. All who attend the recital should dress in Sunday best and come early.

When you attend a recital, please be as quiet as possible and take children out if they become a problem. We strongly encourage everyone to stay until the end of the recital. Those at the end of the program deserve your attention and applause just as much as those at the beginning (plus, we have refreshments at the end!).

The students performing should have their pieces memorized, except in special cases. They should be ready to come to the front when it is their turn as listed on the program. Students should announce the name(s) of their piece(s) before they play and bow when they are done.

Performance Classes: For the 2008-2009 year, performance classes will be held November 15 and June 6. We will have sign ups for times the week before.

By coming to performance class, students will gain confidence and learn the skills necessary to become a compitent performer.  And, plus, everyone gets a treat on their way out!

Music Education Performance Program: Cedar Music Store and Studio holds a solo performance festival twice a year. Teachers and students choose one piece to polish and memorize. At our recitals students will play for judges and will be awarded a rating based on their performance. This is in conjunction with our Music Education Awards Program and students can earn medals based on their ratings. All students of all instruments are invited to participate.
