MEA Program

“Providing students with the skills they need to enjoy music throughout their lives.”

Our Music Education Awards Program (or MEAP) is designed to encourage practice, learning, and instrument mastery and to reward the hard work and success of students.

Students will be asked by their teacher if they are interested in participating in MEAP. Teachers will then begin the student in the appropriate MEAP level and explain specifically what needs to be done to complete the level. Specific questions or concerns about MEAP may be directed to your teacher or the front desk staff.

In general, a MEAP level will consist of theory and technique concepts to be learned and mastered by the student through lessons and practice. For example, MEAP piano levels include specific items to master in these areas: Technique & Artistry, Rhythm, Notes Scales & Chords, and Terms & Symbols. These items are worked on at lessons and/or assigned to be practiced, and evenutally evaluated and signed off by the teacher.

Students will also be adjudicated at a recital by two or three judges (other teachers in the studio). They will receive scores in 5 categories, including Stage Presence, Articulation, Interpretation, Form, and Preparedness. A total of 50 points are possible. A score of 40 or higher is required to complete the MEAP level.

Upon completion of the MEAP level, students will receive a medal at their lesson and be recognized at the following recital. MEAP awards are intended to be challenging to complete and should be celebrated.
